The 123rd Sequim Irrigation Festival

It may sound strange to celebrate irrigation, however the festival symbolizes Sequim’s history of hard work, ingenuity, and strong community. And irrigation made the Sequim Valley bloom and flourish. In 1896, the parched prairies were transformed into fertile farmlands and lavender fields with the construction of irrigation ditches. Sequim held its first irrigation celebration in 1896 and the party has continued for 123 years. In addition to the fascinating and inspiring history, the festival has all the fun and small town charm of a classic carnival. Visit Sequim during this two weekend celebration (May 4th to 13th) that includes a parade, fireworks and so much more.

Though Sequim had a good natural port and abundant seafood for the Native American populations and early settlers that lived here, the Sequim valley and prairies itself were arid and dry.
