Bike the Olympic Discovery Trail

Railroad Bridge Park on Olympic Discovery Trail in SequimSince summer is almost here, it’s the perfect time to grab your bike and explore Sequim. In fact, the League of American Bicyclists recognized Sequim as a Bicycle Friendly Community in 2014. Locals and visitors can bike our downtown full of vibrant shops, restaurants and parks. In addition, our biking community is most fortunate to have easy access to the Olympic Discovery Trail. This scenic trail, at almost 130 miles long, connects Port Townsend to Port Angeles, with Sequim residing at the mid-point.

The Olympic Discovery Trail is wide, well maintained, frequently paved and for non-motorized vehicles. While biking on it you can enjoy all the natural diversity of our region such as: mountain views, lush forests, rolling farmlands, peaceful valleys, pristine mountain rivers and stunning coastal views.

Spring Birding is Back

Spring Birding in SequimIt’s official; Spring is here!  There’s still a little chill to the air in the Pacific Northwest, and it’s definitely been a rainier winter than most, but that’s almost over. Spring is a glorious time to be in Sequim.  The mild weather here means outdoor activities are plentiful no matter the season. However, even on the Olympic Peninsula, there is still something distinctly special about spring time.  The pull to get outside and enjoy the reawakening of mother nature is undeniable. Spring is the perfect time to enjoy quiet activities like birding and hiking through meadows of colorful wildflowers, and Sequim is an incredible place in which to enjoy these activities. An Afternoon at Railroad Bridge Park

Railroad Bridge Park SequimOne step outside your door in the morning, and you realize that the transition between summer and fall is here.  Crisp, chilly mornings are normal this time of year; just as normal as sunny, beautiful afternoons.  Only in the beautiful town of Sequim do you get to enjoy the Olympic Peninsula’s famous natural beauty without all the typical Washington Rain.  Thanks to the rainshadow effect of the Olympic Mountains, Sequim enjoys an incredible 250+ sunny days every year.  The difference in Sequim’s weather patters is much more noticeable during the typically dreary fall and winter days. When the rest of Western Washington bundles up and pulls out the umbrella’s, those of us in Sequim head outside to enjoy the drier weather at places like Sequim’s Railroad Bridge Park. Birding SequimThough there’s still a chill in the air, a quick look out the window tells you that spring is here.  One of the best parts about living in Sequim are the many activities that can be enjoyed throughout the year.  The mild weather here means outdoor activities are plentiful no matter the season.  However, even on the Olympic Peninsula, there is still something distinctly special about spring time.  Though we certainly will see some rain at this time of year, the pull to get outside and enjoy the reawakening of mother nature is undeniable.
