Retirees Love Sequim Golf Courses

One of the best things about retiring to and living in Sequim is the weather. We’ve talked about it quite a bit on this blog, but the weather really is an important part of life here.  Why?  Because it allows us to enjoy things like the various Sequim golf courses, and other activities like hiking and biking, throughout the year.

There are actually 6 golf courses in and around Sequim, which means you’ll never fall short of golfing opportunities during retirement (or otherwise). Couple these incredible golf courses with relatively dry and sunny weather throughout the year, and you really do have a great recipe for enjoying your golden years!

2 of the Best Sequim Golf Courses

There are several great Sequim golf courses to choose from, and even more in neighboring towns like Port Angeles.

Cedars at Dungeness

Without a doubt, the Cedars at Dungeness is the most popular of the 3 main Sequim Golf Courses. In fact, Cedars at Dungeness has been voted the “best golf course in King5 Evening Magazine’s “Best Northwest Escapes” Five  Years in a Row.” Here, you’ll find 5 sets of tees to choose from with unprecedented opportunity for golf enthusiasts, depending on your skill level.

This 18-hole championship course is a part 72, slope 123 course, and features 6,456 acres of playable greens. The course was built in 1970 by the main architect’s Jack Reimer and Mark Miller. One of their defining features is the crab-shaped sand trap. And, of course, like so many areas in Sequim, you’ll enjoy truly breathtaking views of the mountains while golfing

The Cedars at Dungeness also hosts a number of tournaments throughout the year (in normal times), including the Washington Senior Open.

Sunland Golf and Country Club

The Sunland Golf and Country Club is another well-known and popular Sequim golf course. It’s open to the public, and its location in Sequim places it right in the heart of the rainshadow from the Olympic Mountains.  That means there’s great golf all year round at this wonderful course.

There are multiple sets of tees at Sunland Golf & Country Club, which means golfing here is enjoyable for players of all abilities. With a Par 72, slope 123 course, and just over 6,000 yards of greens to enjoy, you can expect golfing at Sunland to be fun and challenging. The course was originally designed by Arthur Vernon Macan, who has a well-regarded golf course architect in the Pacific Northwest.

While you’re out on the course, don’t forget to enjoy the natural surroundings!  Sunland offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, plenty of wildlife, and the towering trees the northwest is known for.

More great golf courses near Sequim worth visiting

Though we often recommend the two Sequim golf courses above, there are certainly plenty more places to work on your game, including in the neighboring towns of Port Angeles and Port Townsend.
