The Dungeness River Festival celebrates a beautiful river while educating about its preservation. Last year’s festival had over 2,500 visitors and 20-plus activities. The dedicated volunteers bring this festival together each year to educate visitors on the importance of the Dungeness River. Additionally, they inspire visitors of all ages to become active stewards and protectors of this essential resource. The Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary (NOAA) bring informative nature exhibits and activities. While the US Forest Service engages young ones with activities and special guest, Smokey Bear, teaching his message of fire prevention. Many other conservation and preservation groups will join the party including the National Park Service, Clallam County, and North Olympic Land Trust.
The Dungeness River and surrounding trails provide visitors and locals with recreational opportunities. Anglers, bird watchers, and horse riders all depend on a healthy watershed and habitat. At the festival The Back Country Horsemen will discuss how to interact with horses on trails. Also learn more about the lifecycle of the river’s fish on an evening “salmon walk.”
