The North Olympic Discovery Marathon Races through Sequim

The North Olympic Discovery Marathon Run a marathon this summer with stunning water and mountain views. The North Olympic Discovery Marathon (NODM), happening this June 2nd and 3rd, is an incredibly scenic course. The race begins at the 7 Cedars Casino in Blyn, connects to the Olympic Discovery Trail, then weaves through Sequim’s Bay State Park and downtown. After crossing the Dungeness River Railroad trestle bridge, the trail opens up to sweeping farm and mountain views. And the last five miles runs along the shores of the Salish Sea until the finish line at Port Angeles City Pier. In 2017, this gorgeous course drew more than 2,000 runners from 36 states and six countries. Runners of all levels and ages are welcome and there is an event for everyone. Join the marathon or cheer on your athlete as they go through downtown Sequim or meet them at the finish line festivities in Port Angeles.

Marathon Details and Courses

While the NODM is a Boston Marathon qualifier, there are many options for those with less lofty fitness goals. The event also includes a half marathon, 10K, 5K, relay and kids races. Walkers are welcome, and an early start time is provided for them and slower runners. Each race starts at a different location, and runners can pick up a free shuttle at the Gateway Transit Center to get there.mountain views in Sequim during marathon

The full marathon begins in the town of Blyn, while runners of the half marathon start the race half-way between Sequim and Port Angeles. The 10K begins at the Deer Park Overlook and the 5K at the City Pier in Port Angeles. Kids can track their own 25 mile marathon over the weeks leading up to the event, then complete the last 1.2 miles at the City Pier. All kids are welcome to join this fun run the day of the marathon!

After crossing the finish line, celebrate in charming downtown Port Angeles. Relax by the water on the beach, get a massage and enjoy some great food and music. Explore the restaurants and shops in town and walk the waterfront. Or head to Sequim for a relaxing dinner away from the crowds and stroll the quaint streets and unique shops.
